Higginbotham hit another milestone in its 68-year history when the firm ranked No. 31 on this year’s list of the 100 Largest Brokers of U.S. Business published by Business Insurance. Based on 2015 revenue, that makes Higginbotham the largest Texas-based independent broker.

Higginbotham founded its Dallas office in 1999, its third location at the time. Now, it’s one of 24 offices across Texas and recently doubled its size when Dallas-based broker AmeriCap Insurance Group, Inc. joined Higginbotham. The combined group has 50 Dallas-area professionals collaborating to offer enhanced service to the DFW Metroplex.
Capps Insurance Agency is an independent broker in Mount Pleasant, Texas, and the latest addition to the Higginbotham group of companies. Capps’ clientele is largely comprised of mid-market businesses in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, and it has a concentration in water and wastewater utility providers and transportation companies.
The union gives Capps’ 33-person workforce more capacity to serve existing and new customers, and it adds another market to Higginbotham’s growing footprint. Mount Pleasant is the farthest east the firm as laid anchor.
Higginbotham has merged operations with Joe N. Pratt Insurance, a nine-person independent property/casualty broker in Victoria, Texas. Joe N. Pratt Insurance joins forces with Higginbotham’s local office to boost its offering to existing and new clients, now including employee benefit services. Higginbotham entered Victoria in 2010 when it partnered with another local practice.
Driven by a passion for nurturing others, former pastor Bernie Henyon, LUTCF has returned to his roots in personal insurance and joined Higginbotham. He will provide home, automobile and liability insurance services to high net worth individuals in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
Peter Clarke, CFPS, FSR, CECM has joined Higginbotham in Corpus Christi as senior loss control consultant to help businesses statewide develop custom programs to improve safety, avoid claims, minimize financial loss and maintain regulatory compliance. Peter has more than 10 years of experience as a safety manager in the private sector and more than 15 in commercial loss control in the insurance carrier market.
Higginbotham hired Jonathan Sakulenzki as employee benefits producer at its office in McAllen, Texas. Sakulenzki will supplement the office’s group health and welfare plan services to keep pace with its growing number of employer clients. He joins a team of two commercial property/casualty insurance producers and one employee benefits producer serving the greater McAllen area.
Higginbotham and Commercial Global Insurance (CGI) have merged their operations in Friendswood, Texas. CGI is a boutique agency in Deer Park, Texas, that provides commercial insurance and bonds to businesses and investors primarily in the industrial, environmental and construction industries. It will merge its five-person group into Higginbotham’s office in the neighboring city of Friendswood this month.
